Unclench: The Ultimate TMJ & Cervical Rehab

Unlock the key to effective TMJ rehabilitation with this comprehensive one-day course designed for physiotherapists and healthcare professionals. Gain a deeper understanding of temporomandibular joint dysfunction, explore the anatomy and biomechanics of the head, neck, and jaw, and master evidence-based rehabilitation techniques to enhance patient outcomes. Whether you’re new to TMJ treatment or looking to refine your skills, this course will provide practical, hands-on techniques and rehabilitation protocols that you can immediately integrate into your clinical practice.

This Academy is taken by Yoni Fingleson & Max Gilbert

Temporomandibular joint dysfunction (TMD) is often misdiagnosed or overlooked, yet it can be a major contributor to chronic pain, headaches, neck dysfunction, and postural imbalances. This one-day course provides a structured and practical approach to assessing and treating TMD, combining manual therapy, myofunctional techniques, and exercise-based rehabilitation to optimise patient care.

Introduction to TMJ Dysfunction

  • Understanding TMJ disorders: musculoskeletal vs. neurophysiological origins
  • The connection between TMJ dysfunction, posture, and cervical spine involvement
  • Recognising common symptoms: jaw pain, clicking, limited mobility, and headaches
  • Head, Neck & TMJ Anatomy & Biomechanics
  • Key muscular, fascial, and neural structures involved
  • The relationship between TMJ function, airway health, and occlusion
  • The role of the trigeminal nerve and its impact on TMJ-related pain

Assessment & Clinical Reasoning

  • Comprehensive functional assessment of the TMJ, cervical spine, and cranial system
  • Identifying movement dysfunctions, compensation patterns, and referral pain sources
  • Special tests for the neck, joint hypermobility, disc displacement, and muscle imbalance

Rehabilitation & Treatment Strategies

  • Hands-on manual therapy: joint mobilization, soft tissue release, and myofascial techniques
  • The Rocabado 50/50 Concept: principles and clinical application
  • Restoring optimal jaw alignment, posture, and airway function
  • Exercise-based rehabilitation: neuromuscular re-education, proprioceptive training, and strengthening
  • Integrating myofunctional therapy: tongue posture, breathing exercises, and swallowing mechanics
  • Patient education & home exercise programming for long-term success

Why Attend?

  • Gain a deeper understanding of TMJ function and dysfunction
  • Enhance your clinical skills with hands-on techniques
  • Expand your treatment toolbox with the latest evidence-based strategies
  • Improve patient outcomes for those with jaw pain, headaches, and postural dysfunctions

By the end of this course, you’ll have the confidence and expertise to effectively assess and treat TMJ disorders, helping your patients achieve lasting relief from pain and dysfunction.
